Hitting the water for an overnight boat trip can be a memorable experience, but it requires proper planning and preparation. That’s why we here at Rockingham Boat have provided you with some essential tips to help you get started. Check them out and contact us with any questions you may have about your vessel or the boats we have for sale.

Packing

Packing for a boat trip is a little different from packing for a car trip. If you have a cabin, then linens and pillows might need to be added to your packing list. Of course, if you don’t have a cabin, you’ll want to find a place to dock each night on shore, either to camp or stay in a hotel. Many marinas have overnight slips you can rent one, but this will require a little bit of research.

General hygiene products are a must-have, as are some of the standard items, like clothes and medication. Also, throw in supplies for any activities you plan to enjoy on this trip, like a deck of cards or fishing gear.

Planning Meals

If you have a cabin with a small kitchen, it’ll probably be easier to decide what food items to bring and how you’ll prepare your meals. If not, you might want to bring a hot plate and rely on non-perishable foods. And don’t forget, you might be in a good fishing area, so perhaps some fresh fish can be on the menu for one night!

Inform a Friend or Family Member Where You’ll Be

One way you can protect yourself in an emergency, on top of bringing safety gear, is to let someone know your plans. Whether that’s a family member or a close friend, make sure someone on shore knows where you’ll be and when you’ll be back. If the worst does happen, they will be able to notify emergency services that something’s wrong.
